Purpose

First, let me give you a little background before I speak to why I have created this site. Not long ago, Father Dave Pinvonka, TOR, came to speak at our parish.  He spent time talking about his walk on the Camino de Santiago. A friend of mine and member of my small church group, Mike, felt moved to do it.  Knowing I was retired and that I was about to finish biblical theology studies (therefore, having an abundance of time on my hands!), Mike asked me if I was interested in joining him. After discussing it for a short while, I was all in.  I was telling a friend (who is a priest) of mine, Father Bill, about it and he also showed interest.  Now the three of us are departing the US on September 12, 2018.  The more one reads and watches videos about the Camino, one finds out quickly that walking the Camino is never “by accident.”  I started thinking and praying about why I was moved to make this pilgrimage.  Slowly, I realized that my purpose was one of “thanks” for all the people that God put in my life when I needed them.  With a planned trek of 32 days, I have a list of 32 people or groups of people to which I will devote a day of walking in thanks to God for their impact on my life.

With this as background, my initial thoughts were to post videos each morning while on the Camino letting friends and families know where I am, where I have been and where I am going.  I would also speak to the person or groups of people for which I am devoting that day’s journey.  Being a complete novice at building a website, I started searching YouTube for guidance.  I was convinced that it would take me months to build one.  But then I stumbled upon videos by Greg Narayan that showed how simple and inexpensive it can be to put together a very sophisticated website.  My needs were simpler!  Now I have a website and I am not leaving until September!  So…  I will stick with the original plan to post videos while on the Camino.  However, until then, I may post my thoughts related to various subjects like Catholic Theology, my journey and conversion to Catholicism, views of the Catholic Church, or any other subjects that strike me as pertinent.  I hope you find it beneficial, enjoyable, informational, and occasionally inspiring!
